Tidy Inbox Is Back: Newton in 16 Languages, Face ID, and Shared Team Mailboxes

August was a big month for making Newton feel calmer, safer, and easier to share. Tidy Inbox is back after nine years. Newton now speaks sixteen languages on mobile. You can lock the app with Face ID or your device passcode. Teams can work out of a shared mailbox without sharing passwords. Sign in with Apple now works across iPhone, desktop, and web. And under all of that, we shipped a long list of fixes that make Newton faster, steadier, and less surprising.

Tidy Inbox Returns

Tidy Inbox is back on desktop.

Turn it on for an account, and Newton will keep lower-priority mail out of your main inbox. Gmail Promotions and Social messages, and Outlook's Other messages, move into a Low Priority view you can check when you are ready.

Nothing is moved or deleted on your mail server. It is a filter, not a rule. And if Newton gets a sender wrong, you can move them back. Newton will remember your choice, and on Outlook that correction is saved to your mailbox too. You can also review and undo those choices in Settings.

Newton Now Speaks Your Language

Newton on iPhone and Android is now available in Danish, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian, Portuguese, Russian, Swedish, Chinese, British English, and English.

That includes dates, snooze presets, folder names, and the rest of the app interface. You can choose your language in Settings -> General -> Language.

Lock Newton Behind Face ID

You can now protect Newton on iPhone and Android with Face ID, Touch ID, fingerprint unlock, or your device passcode.

Go to Settings -> General -> Security, then choose whether Newton should lock immediately or after you have been away for 1, 5, or 15 minutes. Your mail is also hidden in the app switcher.

This setting applies only to the phone where you turn it on, because it protects that specific device.

A Mailbox Your Whole Team Can Share

Shared team mailboxes are now available on desktop, iPhone, and Android.

Set up a team on the web, and any mailbox owned by that team appears alongside your personal accounts. Everyone can read, reply, search, swipe, and compose from the shared mailbox without needing its password.

The mailbox identity belongs to the team, including the alias, signature, color, and sender name. Admins can update those details when needed.

Sign in with Apple

You can now create a Newton account or sign back in with your Apple ID on iPhone, in the desktop app, and on the web.

An Assistant That Can Read Your Mail

On desktop, press Cmd+K, choose Agent, and ask questions across all your accounts.

Newton returns answers as real mail rows you can act on, full messages you can read in place, and drafts you can edit and send without leaving the conversation.

The assistant can only read. It will not archive, move, trash, or send anything unless you click the action yourself. It runs through your own Claude Code installation, so there is no extra Newton subscription or second sign-in. If Claude Code is not installed yet, Newton will show you how to set it up.

Notifications Clean Up After Themselves

When you read or archive a message on one device, Newton now clears the matching notification from your other devices too. No more old lock-screen alerts for mail you already handled.

Empty Trash Now Really Empties

Empty Trash now clears the messages on your mail server, not just the portion Newton had already downloaded.

Before it starts, Newton shows you how many messages will be removed. While it runs, you will see live progress, and you can cancel if you need to. Empty Spam now works the same way.

Heads Up

The Windows Menu Bar Now Hides Itself

On Windows, File, Edit, View, and Window no longer take up a permanent strip at the top of the app. All shortcuts still work, and pressing Alt brings the menu bar back whenever you need it.

Desktop

Improvements

Search now fills the pane. Results appear as proper mail rows, with avatars, date grouping, and your conversation settings, instead of a cramped list inside a small box. You can narrow results by date, sender, attachment, unread status, folder, and account. Operators you type manually are preserved. There is also a new magnifier in the header to open search quickly.

The sidebar can stay open. The hamburger button now docks the sidebar beside your mail instead of floating it over the message list, and Newton remembers how you left it.

Writing tools can fix only the text you select. Highlight a sentence while composing, and Newton offers Improve, Shorten, Change tone, Fix grammar, or your own instruction. Only the selected text changes. You can keep it, discard it, or try again.

Long threads open closer to where you expect. Messages you have already read fold behind a single divider, so the message you came for appears on screen instead of sitting far below a stack of old headers. Unread mail is never hidden.

Expanded messages now show who the email went to. You will see a short line such as "to me, Dhruv, Amee +3," and opening it shows the full From, To, Cc, date, and subject details. Every address can be copied.

Conversation action buttons now explain themselves. Hover over a button to see its name and keyboard shortcut, including Snooze and Spam.

Bulk actions are easier from the keyboard. Every button in the selection bar now shows and responds to a key. If several messages are selected, right-clicking opens the bulk menu instead of the single-message menu.

Fixes

Newton no longer forgets your theme after an update. Your Light or Dark choice now stays put.

Read and unread rows are easier to tell apart. Read messages now step back visually, and the unread dot is visible in both light and dark themes.

Newton now opens on Linux. The Snap Store build previously failed to start on Ubuntu. It has been rebuilt on a current foundation and runs again.

Account reconnect prompts are more accurate. A Microsoft token error containing the digits "410" was being treated as a full reconnect request, which could make Newton re-download entire Outlook mailboxes. Removed accounts and passing server errors could also trigger false reconnect prompts. Those cases are now handled correctly, and requests can no longer hang forever.

Trashing a message from Spam now sends it to Trash. Before, it could disappear from both Spam and Trash. Undo also puts it back where it came from.
